As we head to the New year 2023, it may be time to re-energize your goals. Some of us who had set big goals for ourselves this year may have probably quit or given up on those goals by now. The result? We fall back into old habits and continue to get the results we so desperately wanted to change. To ensure this does not happen with us in the new year, here are 3 strategies that will help you refresh your goals and put yourself back on track to achieving them—
1. Examine your belief system
We have been gifted with the power of imagination that can be used to create something that has never existed. Whatever your dream is – doing exceptionally well at work, getting a promotion, doubling your income, writing a best-selling book, purchasing the house of your dreams, helping children in need etc. You can do all those things and much more if you really see yourself doing them and then hold on to the belief that it’s all possible for you. But why don’t we hold on to the mental pictures we desire? Why don’t we believe we can achieve our goals and dreams? Answer lies in our “limiting belief patterns”.
The limiting beliefs that have been programmed into us over the years get in the way of our success today. Most of these beliefs hold no truth whatsoever. Some of them might have made sense a long time ago, but since we live in such a different world today, we got to re-examine those thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Our belief system is based upon our evaluation of something, and frequently if we re-evaluate situations, thoughts and feelings, our beliefs will change and so will our results.
Take a pen and paper and re-evaluate your thoughts on things such as-
- Who am I?
- Why I do, what I do?
- How do I really feel about myself?
- What are the dominant feelings I hold for others?
- Which experiences have influenced my life and behaviour?
- Are my existing beliefs true for sure?
- Do my existing beliefs and feelings add value to my life?
- What positive beliefs can I hold today to attract desirable results and experiences in my life?
Contemplate on the above questions in silence. They will help you become more aware and alert about the fact that if a belief is limiting you in any way, you got to change it. Read the positive beliefs list daily to reprogram your mind and achieve your goals faster!
2. Consider yourself as a Director of your own life script
If you want to achieve your goals, you got to go from being a mere observer to being a creator or director of your own life. Realize that as the director of your life, you can make any movie you want. Decide what story you want to tell, what scenes you want to shoot, and how you want the movie to progress and end. Sit in silence with yourself. Let your mind go anywhere it wants to, without trying to control what you see. Let your true inner self reveal to you what you really deserve to be and have without allowing your logical mind or reasoning to come in the way. Open your eyes and write down the things that you would really, really like to be, do and have in the new year.
Out of all the things you have written, pick one big idea as your goal—something that really inspired you from within and made you feel excited and most joyful even thinking about it. Focus on this one big goal in the new year. It will keep you enthusiastic and inspired to live your life with more clarity, joy and power. Moreover your attention to your goal will make your subconscious mind work proactively to make your goal a reality in your life.
3. Take Action and Think positive
Whenever you have failed to reach a goal, it was primarily due to one thing: What was going on in your own mind – not in the mind of your boss, partner, friend or business associate. Other people only reflect what you are holding inside you. So give up the need to blame others for your failures. At the same time, don’t depend upon others for your success. Hold yourself accountable and look at what you can do to make your dream a reality. Don’t let the economy, job situation or someone else’s opinion bother you. There are people who have done exceptionally well even in tough times when majority of people around them failed. These are people who gave their best even in tough times and instead of quitting, chose to stay positive without resorting to blame and criticism.
Your Mindset is the actual cause of your results. Think about the mindset you need to achieve your goal. Before you take any action, think of how successful people would think and how they would act. List down the habits of successful people you have seen, heard or read. Try to adopt those habits as much as possible in your own daily life. Make personal development a priority and take inspiration from people who have already done what you want to do.
If you follow these above practices, You will not only bring out the best in yourself but you will also exuberate more confidence and positivity in every area of your life from your home and relationships to your health and finances. With time, you will realize that reaching your goal has become not merely “possible” but “inevitable”.
