Whatever is happening inside us is creating our experiences in the outer world. It is our thoughts, attitudes, feelings and actions that create our reality. Nothing happens by chance. We create it with our minds.
If we want to live happy, healthy and prosperous lives, the biggest challenge before us is learning how to remove negative thoughts and influences from our mind daily. You may think you will avoid or ignore those thoughts but when you try to suppress or ignore them, they may actually grow bigger and stronger with time. Instead of trying to resist these negative influences, it would greatly help if you could replace them with something more worthy and positive and weaken their influence until one day, they stop bothering us completely.
How to do we go about doing this, let’s find out-
1. Find something good in every situation.
There is great power in seeing the good in everything. Sometimes it can be tough to see the good in a situation. But if you practice pausing before you respond, you will be able to find something good, even if it is something very small.
Victor Frankl said in his book ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’, “In every situation, between the situation and the way we respond to it, there is a space, Start training your mind to use that space to think of something good.” When you do , you will automatically see yourself being surrounded with more good and joy in your life.
Reflecting on the good that you can find in every situation or person will leave you feeling more positive and hopeful. You will effortlessly weaken negative thoughts and feelings within you and build a more powerful positive self image that allows you to draw better experiences and outcomes.
2. When one door closes, start looking for another one
Remind yourself of this great metaphysical truth, “When one door closes, another opens.” Always expect doors to open for you. So often people look so disappointingly and regretfully upon closed doors that they do not see the new ones which are opening for them. Don’t be one of them. Every time a door closes, make it a habit to think-“Oh- That means a new door is opening up for me!” Keep having this positive self talk in your mind and tell yourself, “I will find a way, I will certainly find a way.”
Looking at closed doors from this perspective will help you actively look for something positive around you and bring you unexpected opportunities and growth. You will keep moving forward and negative influences will automatically clear up from your way.
3. Create a good environment
Be proactive in designing your own environment. Your environment includes your physical surroundings, the people around you, and even your community/culture. Environment plays a big role in shaping our mindset. If we want to remove negative influences, we will have to pay close attention to identify if we have things in our environment that could be stopping us from staying positive and achieving our goals. Freeing your mind from negative influences requires making active decisions about people, and surroundings you choose to be in or to avoid completely.
To get started with designing your own environment –
A. First, ensure that your home and office space is clean, organized, orderly and pleasing to the eyes.
B. Second, look to surround yourself with people who are
✓ More optimistic and cheerful
✓ Supportive of what you are trying to achieve
✓ Knowledgeable and helpful
✓ Always willing to learn and share
✓ Successful in what they do
C. Third, look at feeding yourself positive thoughts and ideas by investing in good books. As they say, good books could be man’s best friends. Not only can they give you some great advice they can also support and inspire you to live your best life. While you are on your way to identifying the right company of people, look at surrounding yourself with good books that motivate and encourage you to think and feel good.
4. Exercise and Stay Fit
Exercising regularly helps to increase endorphins and to release mental stress and physical tension from the body. Staying lethargic and inactive can cause a lack of motivation, difficulty concentrating and even lower your self-confidence. Try to identify and start a workout routine or form of exercise you enjoy so you will be more likely to continue it. Staying fit and active can help you stay enthusiastic and feel more positive about yourself, others, and life in general.
5. Sit in Silence
Adopting the Silent sitting practice daily can help you become more aware of your thoughts, beliefs and mental resistances. As you become more mindful, you are able to more easily release the ones that don’t serve you and choose instead to think more positive thoughts which help you to live your life in the present moment with more love and joy.
Mindful breathing and silent sitting practice also allow you to achieve greater mental calm and stillness, helping you overcome worry and anxiousness. Being consistent in your practice will help you attain a more balanced approach and positive perspective on everything that is happening around you.
