J. Krishnamurti, a great Philosopher and Writer had said, “If you have no relationship with nature, you have no relationship with man or life itself. Although much of the time we view ourselves as being this mind and body, separate from nature and our surroundings, we are all actually part of the same wholeness. Nature is our extended body. Everything we do affects the surroundings around us and everything that happens in nature influences us. When we appreciate nature and acknowledge our oneness with it, we begin to fully enjoy its beauty and healing effects.
Our forests, rivers, oceans and soils provide us with the food we eat, the air we breathe and the water we drink. We depend on nature for our health and prosperity and the most amazing thing about nature is its infinite variety.
But apart from these, there are some other wonderful benefits of Nature which we often tend to overlook-
1. Nature brings Joy.
The beauty that we experience in nature can help us unlock the beauty within our own minds and hearts. Nature can leave us with one of the most healing experiences in our lives, enriching our mind and tuning our bodies to the richness and abundance of the universe. Just being surrounded by nature, its beautiful sights and sounds brings balance, enthusiasm and joy to our entire being and physiology.
How to derive its benefit?
Spend time in nature daily, whether it’s going for a walk, or simply spending some time outdoors, feeling the wind blowing through your face, feeling the richness of the ground beneath your feet, listening to sweet sounds and chirping of the birds. Just hearing these most basic sounds of creation reconnects us with our essence and opens us to the eternal quality and hidden gifts of life.
2. Nature brings Clarity and Solutions.
Ever wondered how you can have a direct and fulfilling one to one session with Nature? Let’s find out.
Find a quiet place outdoors in nature. With your eyes open, look everywhere around you. Observe your surroundings, then slowly and effortlessly look at the trees and far into the sky. Gradually allow your focus and vision to expand further and further, deeper into space, drifting through galaxies and solar systems, stars and planets as far as you can. Look deep into the eternal, infinite, endless, ever present face of the Universe.
Close your eyes, let the feeling of your body dissolve as you become one with the universe and all of life. Imagine the trees, birds, sky, stars and planets floating within you as if there is no separation between you and them. Let all of nature turn into a beautiful ball of white light spreading its warmth to every part of your body, energizing you, refreshing you and healing you.
Few minutes into this exercise can make you feel more connected with your own self. You may suddenly find answers and solutions to some of your problems as connection with nature is a very healing experience for the mind, body and soul. It has the potential to bring in a lot of clarity and strength.
3. Nature helps develop Self love
People who connect with nature and value the gifts of nature hold more value for themselves and their lives. Nature helps us appreciate our own lives and explore the hidden gifts lying within us. Appreciating nature helps us to adopt a healthy attitude where we take better care of ourselves, keeping our body healthy and mind positive.
How to consciously practice self-love with nature?
Connect with nature on a daily basis and develop more self-love by saying “thank you” to some aspect of nature every single day of your life. Whether it’s a beautiful flower you see, your favorite tree and fruit or a wonderful scenic view.
4. Nature allows better Mind control
A wonderfully nourishing practice to heal your emotions and take better charge of your thoughts through nature is to bring your awareness to any element of nature like water, air or earth that you connect most to and then slowly use your senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch) to connect with that form of nature.
For example, imagine hearing the sound and seeing, touching, smelling, tasting the water from a river. Directing attention towards nature with your senses will allow you to learn how to concentrate and become fully one with the present moment, away from thoughts and memories of the past. Our mind-body system is a harmonious, integrated manifestation of nature. Giving our attention and appreciation to this experience of oneness with nature will allow balance and healing to emerge within our mind and body. Regular practice will allow you to have more control over your mind and sensory organs. You will find yourself less troubled with negative thoughts and feelings.
As we can see, Nature contributes to our overall mental and physical wellbeing, reducing production of stress and inducing more relaxation which is very important and helpful especially in today’s competitive age and time. All it will take is your willingness and commitment. Ready to make it a part of your lifestyle?
