Without mental strength, life’s challenges can fill leave us feeling doubtful, anxious and depressed. We start becoming more negative in our thought process and feelings which adversely affect our behavior and performance. Staying strong in the midst of hardship requires mental strength so that we can think through the challenge and come up with solutions to our problems.
Research studies on mind and emotions show that mental strength plays a very important role in achieving any goal. Whether these goals are in the area of health, business, career, relationships or life in general.
Good news is that we can all learn to be more resilient and mentally strong. It’s all about working towards being in the right psychological and emotional state of mind and vibration.
Here are some ways you can work towards acquiring mental strength and use your positive state of mind to achieve your desired success.
1. Practice Conscious Breathing
Breathing slowly and consciously actually helps to keep better mental and emotional health. Most people do not realise that when they are stressed and anxious, they are breathing very fast. The more tensed you are, the more likely you are to breathe shallow without conscious realization of it. How can you control something if you are not even conscious of it? As a result of anxiousness, one could often experience headache, muscle tightness or such other discomfort which affects our productivity and quality of life.
Here is a great way to release tension and get mentally stronger- Every 2 to 3 hours in the day, Take a short break. Consciously take 5-7 deep breaths. Inhale slowly and smoothly to the count of 5, hold your breath to the count of 5 and exhale even more slowly to the count of 5. Then, Relax to the count of 5 and start the next round. This is even more powerful when you breathe in and out with a smile on your face. This creates good circulation and steady breathing throughout your day, leaving you feeling calmer and energized, stronger and positive.
2. Go from Complaining to Thanking
Complaining doesn’t accomplish anything. Infact it weakens your spirit and lowers your energy. It keeps you in a negative vibration, robbing you of time, energy and effort that could have gone into bringing good and desired things into your life.
What goes out from you, comes right back to you. By complaining you are constantly putting out negative thoughts and thus continue to attract more negativity into your life, leaving you dejected and sad. The Solution lies in strengthening your mind by building the right mindset. The most powerful way to develop a more positive mindset is to adopt an attitude of Gratitude. Have Gratitude for everything in life. Thankfulness is the direct opposite of Complaining. You can either complain or be grateful in the moment. Gratitude is a powerful emotion and energy that will keep you inspired and joyful. You will never lose enthusiasm and passion for life if you are genuinely thankful for life’s blessings and gifts.
3. Be willing to take responsibility for your own life
The most important lesson we can learn from success stories of big achievers is that they held themselves accountable for whatever they experienced or wished to experience in their life. Instead of blaming others they took stock of what they could do to achieve the success they desired. They always looked at how they could get better and better at what they are doing without worrying about what others were thinking or doing. The more you make it a habit to assume responsibility for your own life, the less likely you are to get overwhelmed with challenges.
Here’s a simple yet effective way to practice 100 % responsibility- when a tough situation arises, immediately ask yourself, “what can I do here”, “How can I resolve this”, “What is the best way for me to turn this around.” Such questions impress your subconscious mind with the idea that You and not someone else controls your life, that you are capable of changing this situation with the wisdom that lies within you. As a result, you go more easily from ‘they always do this to me’ to ‘I am worthy and capable to bring more good into my life’.
4. Learn to manage your emotions
It’s natural to get emotional at times. But if you let your emotions overpower you, you begin to feel weak and demotivated to face life’s challenges. Running away from your feelings is never the solution. You got to acknowledge how you feel. Be loving and compassionate with yourself while also reminding yourself that, You can feel better and attract more good if you shift your thoughts from what you don’t want, to what you do want to have and experience in your life.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed with an unpleasant emotion, Ask yourself, “How do I want to feel?” Take time to answer this question. Let your subconscious mind hear what you prefer to be, do and have. The more it hears about the positive emotion you wish to express, the more it will look to create that emotion within you. Another powerful way to manage your feelings better is to focus on the task in hand. Do what you ought to do this moment giving all your attention to it by reminding yourself, “This is the most important thing for me to do right now”. It will allow you take your mind off that unpleasant emotion and to slowly start experiencing the positive effects of mindfulness.
