Two words that are the biggest lies in the world are – “I can’t.”
They are a lie that most people say over and over to look for excuses, to persuade themselves not to take risks that might make them uncomfortable or cause them to do anything that might cause “failure.” Truth is failure is simply a lesson that’s giving you the information you need to do a better job next time. And being uncomfortable is also part and parcel of life that simply means you are getting into a new experience that will help you to grow!
It’s important to let go of the words “I can’t” and instead embrace the truth that You can achieve anything you can imagine – If you believe in yourself!
By cultivating self belief and developing a positive mindset, you will gain the confidence you need to successfully get through any situation that life throws your way.
When you believe in yourself, your self-confidence becomes a wish fulfilling boon. You will be that person who is able to do things and get better outcomes in everything you do.
Here are some thoughts on how to believe in yourself and gain confidence in your ability to overcome challenges and achieve desired goals in your life-
1. Recall Past Achievements
Engaging in regular positive self-reflection can be very helpful in developing self confidence and self belief. A great way to do that is to list down everything – big or small you have accomplished in your life so far. This will help remind yourself that you are someone who is capable of achieving goals, taking risks, handling tough situations and overcoming challenges. While you recall your past successes, repeat words like, “ I am so proud I could do that,”, “I am so grateful I could accomplish these things.” Such positive self-talk practice will help you to cultivate faith in your own abilities and to start seeing yourself as someone who has the power to make things happen for the good. Besides, when you focus on your past with pride and gratitude, you instantly start feeling better. Your subconscious mind begins to trigger more pleasant memories and positive emotions within you.
2. Visualize the Success you desire
Visualization is a great tool that allows you to clearly see the kind of future you wish to have. After all we are all aware of this metaphysical proverb, “If you can see it in your mind, you can have it in your reality.” Not only does Visualization help you stay motivated to keep moving forward in the right direction, but it also allows you to keep your goals on top of your mind when several other distractions could easily take away your time energy and attention.
A simple way to practice visualization is to simply close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes and start imagining yourself in possession of whatever it is that you desire to achieve. See yourself clearly having what you want and celebrating your success with your near and dear ones.
Although this is simple practice, due to mental blockages, many people find it difficult to visualize without negative thoughts. Here is one effective way to stay focused on your goals and desired vision – Write a clear description of the success you desire. Write about the positive differences this goal or success will make in your life. Read this description of your success story daily. As you do, you will form strong positive pictures around your goals that will help you cultivate more self belief and confidence that you can indeed achieve these dreams.
Another way to use power of visualization is by creating your own vision board. A vision board is a graphic representation of exactly what you want in life. To make a vision board, take pictures from magazines or ones you have downloaded online, as well as include motivational words and sayings to remind you of your purpose, goals and dreams. Once your board is ready, put it somewhere you will see it every day to give yourself a powerful visual reminder of the future you are working towards. A vision board is a powerful way to impress your subconscious mind with your dreams and to bring into your reality whatever you have placed on your board.
3. Think and Act like the Person you want to become
One of the most effective ways to develop a positive and confident outlook is to think and act as if you already are the person who has created the life you dream of living today. In order to practice being that successful person, ask yourself: If you had already achieved your dream, what kind of a person would you be? What would you be thinking? How would you act? How would you treat others? Would kind of activities would you be involved in? Whatever steps or actions you identify in the process of asking these questions, start doing them now. They will make your subconscious mind find creative ways to achieve your goals and make you that person in your physical reality too. By acting “as if ” you already are successful, you will start attracting and grabbing good opportunities. You will have the confidence that your efforts will yield great results. You will soon become someone who is capable of accomplishing great things.
