Overcome Fear of Change and Allow Positive transformation to take place in your life
It is said, Change is the only constant. Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. Yet we often find it hard to accept and adapt to Changes, even if they could be for our better. Most of us are fearful of change. It is fear of the unknown, of the unfamiliar, that stops at times from taking action towards our dreams, our desires and goals.
We may be in an environment we don’t like, even in a job that does not fulfill or satisfy us but yet we continue being there simply because we are afraid to try something different. We are afraid we won’t find anything better or won’t be able to do something better. What does such fear do to us? It stops us from progressing and growing in our own lives. We end up staying stuck in our old environments of lack. We continue experiencing the World through the filters of our old limiting patterns and beliefs.
Let’s discuss some ways we can Overcome the Fear of Change –
- Face what you have to Face with Courage
When we try to resist or run away from a fear producing situation or person, our fear grows stronger until we are forced to deal with it. It can get to the point that it dominates our thinking and feeling completely during the day, and often causes restless nights too. On the other hand, if we face what we have to face and deal with it at the right time, it will leave us soon. Our ability to face situations and act despite our fears is the key to our mental freedom and success.
A great way to put this idea into practice is to Identify a situation or person in your life that you are afraid of and resolve to deal with this fear immediately. Don’t allow it to control you or make you unhappy for even a day more. Think of what action steps you can take for this situation. Sit calmly in silence and write down what thoughts, ideas and solutions you are getting. When you are ready to face the situation, your confidence gets a boost. You tap into your own hidden potential and abilities to make necessary changes.
- Stay Informed and Aware
If you ask yourself, why you fear something, most of the times the answer you will get is because you don’t know exactly how it will turn out or how you are going to handle it for your best. Fear is often caused by ignorance, by not knowing enough. If your fear is based on a lack of information, then get the information or knowledge you need. This will help you to examine the situation appropriately based on facts rather than just assumptions or guesses. Knowledge is power. When you try to gain Knowledge, you end up gaining Power. This power can help you overcome any challenge or obstacle you are surrounded with.
- Take Small Steps
If you are pursuing a big goal or trying to get through a major change in your life, it can be overwhelming to think about all the details and action steps at once. You may end up feeling very stressed and anxious about the whole thing. So, break down the goal into smaller, more manageable steps. Instead of trying to figure out how you are going to accomplish the goal or handle the change completely, set small targets and tasks for yourself. This will help convince your mind that it’s doable. Taking small steps will keep the fear under control and you will start making progress more steadily and smoothly.
The same is true for many tough situations you may be experiencing. Instead of trying to solve every single challenge you are facing, choose one challenge or task at a time. Complete it with focus and determination, one single step at a time. Once you have finished that task, the sense of accomplishment will help you gain more confidence to solve the next challenge at hand.
- Always Expect the Best
Whenever you are feeling afraid of something and notice your discomfort, just pause for few seconds. Take few deep breaths and imagine yourself completing the task successfully, even overcoming the obstacle you may be facing. Imagine in your mind that you having already succeeded in your task. When you imagine your success, keep a smile on your face. Imagine how good you are feeling with your success. Imagine sharing the news with your loved ones. Try to imagine and sense the joy you will feel when you have accomplished your task or challenge. Let yourself experience the emotions you will feel when you succeed. Visualize your success and hold the image of it in your mind until you feel better. This will direct your focus to What you want – Success and Happiness rather than what you don’t want—Fear and Disappointments.
