The Five elements – Panchabhutas show us to be happy and healthy
Everything in nature including your own body is made up of five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. The Indian yogic system teaches us to incorporate all the 5 elements of nature in our day-to-day life and to be grateful to each and every element. Knowledge and deeper connection with these elements is said to bring greater happiness and good health in our lives.
Let us learn about the significance of these elements and how we can learn from them and implement the learnings we get from these elements into our daily life.
1. Earth teaches Humility
Earth teaches us to stay grounded whatever the circumstances, irrespective of how much we have or who we are. It teaches us to treat everyone equal. Humility is often misunderstood as weakness. But this is not true. Only when we feel insecure and weak from within do we actually try to overpower others by hiding our own limitations.
By being humble you have greater power over yourself and you don’t give other people the power or opportunity to hurt you. Instead like the earth element, you automatically start enriching others along with adding value to your own life.
2. Fire teaches Positivity
What does fire do? It removes darkness and brings light. Fire teaches us to be passionate for life and everything around us. It teaches us to keep our inner spirit alive by staying enthusiastic and positive in life. Fire is considered to be very sacred that is why it is used in rituals and many forms of worship.
Fire inspires us too to become sacred and pure from within so that our inner light also shines brightly spreading warmth and positivity where ever we go. Let us learn from the fire element to remove the darkness of the ill thoughts and feelings lying within us and cleanse our minds and hearts of all negativity.
3. Air teaches Letting Go
Air may not be seen but is felt. It is present every where at all times. Your very breath reminds you of the air you are taking in and the air that is leaving your body. Imagine if we are unable to release the air out of our body. Can we imagine any life without oxygen? Air teaches us to let go of the past and be fully present to the moment in hand.
If we stay stuck to our past or negative experiences, and keep thinking about what all happened, we will bring our own life to a standstill and block our energy and success. We are strong enough to face any challenge. But we must be mindful to embrace the present moment to take better charge of our lives.
4. Space teaches limitless possibility
The sky is limitless and infinite. It teaches us to broaden our vision and open our heart to people and possibilities. We must be willing to change for the better. We must be open and flexible to think, see and feel differently. Vastness of the sky teaches us that we should be inclusive in our approach and broad minded in our thinking just like the Univerese which includes everyone and everything.
We should be ever ready to help others by realizing we are all connected by Spirit. Because the sky is so inclusive and vast, it is beyond limits and infinite in nature. So also, we should realize that we are not restricted by anyone or by any limits other than our own mind, thoughts and beliefs. We can be, do and have whatever we want. There is no limit to either our imagination or the reality we wish to experience. All we have to do is to stay connected to the the truth and reality of Who we are!
5. Water teaches Authenticity
Water teaches us to be transparent and authentic. it reminds us to simply be in flow with life so that we can think with clarity and act with authenticity. Water takes the shape of whatever container you put it in yet it does not lose it’s nature or authenticity. When we lead our lives with courage and do not allow outer circumstances to weaken us, we will able to express ourselves truthfully and live more joyfully. We will live without judgment, fear, and feelings of unworthiness. We will be confident about who we are and act with intelligence and integrity.
When we are comfortable with our own selves and are connected with our own nature and spirit just like Water, we are able to awaken our own inner power and be guided by our higher self. This will help us make important life decisions and choices to better our lives.
Best wishes
