Why Keep your Inner Child alive?

What is the greatest gift we have been given to take more conscious control of our lives? It is undoubtedly the gift of “Imagination”. It’s a gift we use to get anywhere in no time without any restrictions of tickets, passports or visas. We can use it to create anything we want. For anything that the mind can see, it can guide you and lead you on to further. That’s how all the great things we see and use today were created -First in the mind, from airplanes to computers to even the internet.

We used this gift very well and without doubting its power until the age of six or seven years. We used it to build beautiful pictures of what we wanted to do and be. We could easily turn a regular toy into an unimaginable object all with the power of our imagination. We even saw ourselves as superheroes saving the world and were almost convinced that we had special powers to fly and dance in the air. Not only did we have a powerful imagination as kids, but we also most likely had less self-judgment. And that was a very powerful winning quality we possessed. If you observe closely, Children don’t know much about what they can’t do. They are great believers in their abilities until they are told they can’t do it or are not good enough. (Read this point over and over again)

However things start to change after Kids go to school and start to grow older. They are told they need to be logical and rational So, they stop fantasizing and start focusing more on the mundane world—schoolwork and everyday tasks in hand. Thereby slowly withdrawing from that limitless imaginative world they once lived in. They start functioning more form their head than their heart.

As they grow into adolescence and enter adulthood, instead of fantasizing about what they want, they start to use their imagination in a much different way. They start to imagine their greatest fears and worries coming true. This is often because they have long enough been around elders who worry and fear for things most of the time. As adults most often we are inherently programmed to look for results. We want to get to our destination faster and in the process, life becomes very mechanical and we lose our peace, excitement and joy in doing things or even living our lives.

The Good news is, You can awaken the little child within you, no matter how old you are right now. And when you do, you will be able to successfully use your imagination to block or remove what’s happening in your life today and build an image in your mind of how you want to live. The best part is, You don’t have to be very different as an adult. You just have to remember to choose and follow in your inner child’s footsteps.

Here are 3 Ways to Keep Your Inner Child Alive-

1. Be Curious and Open

The great Albert Einstein had said, “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”Children are naturally very curious by nature. If they see something new, they want to engage with it and experience it. They have no past association or experience to base their decisions on, so they ask questions and explore the world on their own to find out how things work.

Like children, let’s be more curious about life and things around us instead of thinking we already know everything and all the time assuming how things will turn out. These assumptions make life boring and dull. Instead, Let’s learn to live moment to moment. Let’s Create new ideas as a child would. Observe with an open mind, don’t be afraid to Ask questions to yourself and others. This spirit of learning and curiosity will help generate ideas that will lead you somewhere you have never gone before. Make it a point to learn something new every day. It will keep you enthusiastic and passionate

2. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

Children are fun loving and adventurous by nature. They have no fear and are huge risk-takers. So they will continue trying to crawl, walk, run, climb, play around with objects, strike up conversations with strangers even when they don’t know how it will ultimately turn out for them. They are not worrying about the result, they are enjoying the process. What is interesting to note is that many of the greatest lessons we learn in our lives come from being courageous and adventurous- that is from being unafraid to lose or fall like children.

We may avoid failure and pain if you don’t risk things in our lives, but we certainly cannot learn, change, grow, love, or live fully without undertaking risks or doing something different. So, if you have some ideas and you are convinced about them from within, then be brave and dare to take action with a relaxed mind. Go for the life you really want. If you don’t do it now, you may continue feeling safe and comfortable but you will stay where you are. On the other hand, if you take action and succeed, you will live the life of your dreams!

3. Stop Worrying About What Others Think

Children are not exhausting themselves or draining their energy thinking about what others think of them. So they are very creative and alert. Children laugh, sing, or dance when they feel like. There is no facade or pretending. It is only adults, who worry about appearing foolish. But the irony is the person who you think is judging you is also worried that somebody else is judging him or her. So when you feel judged, remind yourself, you will be judged anyway. So why not do what you want and be judged? Atleast this way you are doing what makes your heart happy? Doesn’t this make sense?

Learn to let go of thoughts of judgment. Listen to your own heart. There is an inner guidance system within you, ever ready to guide you and lead you to the right path. Spend some time in silence daily to connect with this powerful system within you. Do things in the day that lift your spirit and make you joyful. This will keep you in a loving and positive vibration and you will be well on your way to living your best life!
