Practice Self-love: Blog post by Dr. Karishma Ahuja
Can you honestly say that you love yourself? Do you value and respect yourself or are you having a hard time being happy with yourself? Focusing on your faults and dwelling on your insecurities could perhaps have become a way of being and living. Doing this can cause you to lose confidence in your abilities and even dislike yourself. You may also be too busy focusing on others around you rather than focusing on Loving yourself. Why is Self-love so important? Loving yourself is the greatest way towards healing Yourself.
We spend so much time doing our best on the outside – working on our bodies, careers, and goals. But It’s just as important to spend time doing work on the inside — developing pure and unconditional love, acceptance, and compassion for Self. This will make us feel more worthy as individuals. As a result, we will be able to do more and accomplish more in life. We will have more to give to others and to the world.
Here are some powerful ways we can practice Self-love
-
Appreciate yourself
One of the best ways to practice Self-love is to learn to start appreciating yourself and your past efforts and accomplishments. What makes you smile and feel proud as you look back? Recall and Write down some of your significant achievements. Go through this list frequently. When you are feeling insecure or not good enough, it will help remind you of all the things that prove you are strong, capable, and successful. For example, If you failed at your job, you would normally feel insecure, unlucky, and unworthy. However, if you have a list of great efforts and things that you have done in the past, then you will very quickly come out of those negative feelings you are holding for yourself. You will start seeing the brighter side of things and gain more confidence and inspiration to go out there and fulfill your dreams.
2. Observe & Value the little things that bring joy
When most people think about joy, their mind generally jumps to some special and rare moments like vacations, fun trips, promotions parties, celebrations, etc. But the reality of our life is made up of the everyday moments: it is made up of moments like doing the daily chores like going to the market to pick up stuff for your home, cleaning up, heading to work, meeting someone after a long time, having a conversation with someone, meeting deadlines, managing home, doing things for your family, seeing your loved ones smile and so on. Self-love is about finding joy and love in your life in these everyday moments.
A great way to do this is to bring Mindfulness into your daily activities. Focus on where you are, what you are doing, how is it making you feel. When you become more mindful, you will automatically enjoy what you are doing. You will slow down, relax and enjoy even your routine tasks. You will realize that every moment is so Special, that life is special and most importantly that, You are so Special to get to enjoy and live this life to the fullest! A great way indeed to improve Your Self-love quotient.
3. Affirm Positive words and statements
Positive words are healing words. Slowly they begin to change your thinking, attitude, and reality. Thus repeating them to Yourself every day is a great way to start experiencing more love, joy, and wellbeing in your life. They will keep you motivated to get through your day more confidently and powerfully.
Try some of these powerful statements to Practice Self-love wholeheartedly:
I love myself unconditionally
I am Worthy of Respect and Appreciation
I Value and Trust myself
I Value and Love my life
I am a Confident and Strong individual
I think Clearly and Positively
I speak sweetly and lovingly to myself and others
I Surround myself with loving and encouraging people
I am a Secure and Optimistic person
