Technology has certainly changed the way we live our lives. It has dramatically impacted our education, work culture and ability to learn. Information is readily available today at the click of a mouse. Lack of information is not the problem anymore, but too much information is certainly becoming a big problem. There is so much out there that can easily influence us and impact our thoughts and feelings.
But is information everything? Just like a Guru is not merely someone who has more information or knowledge than you, he is someone who correctly uses this knowledge to guide you on your path and journey. So too, you must learn to connect with your inner Guru and GPS (your own inner wisdom and intelligence) for guidance. When you do, you will experience more clarity and peace along with success and happiness in everything you do.
Here are ways we can stay connected to our Inner Guidance System-
1. Know your purpose
When we get into the car and head to a specific destination, the first thing we input into our GPS is our current location. Once we clearly put where we are and where we want to go, it starts to gives us directions. For the system to work, it simply needs to know your beginning location and your end destination. The navigation system figures out the rest by the use of an onboard computer that receives signals from multiple satellites and calculates our exact position. All we have to do from that point on is follow the instructions it gives us to reach our destination. Similarly for success in life it is important to know where you want to go, what your goals and priorities are.
Decide where you want to go and clarifying your Vision. Then keep taking action by listening to your inner wisdom and allowing that wisdom to guide you and take you to your destination/purpose through the easiest and fastest route.
2. Mind your thoughts
Thoughts are energy. You become the thoughts you think. Your thoughts influence your choices and even your ability to understand or comprehend things. If your thinking is not in flow with your true spirit, you will not only misinterpret the information that is available to you, you may end up misusing it, causing much hurt and harm to your own self.
If you keep worrying or thinking negative thoughts like “I am going to fail”, “I am never going to make it” or “I am not good enough”, you start lowering your energy and vibration. Your inner GPS can only bring you guidance in line with your mental vision and attitude. When you engage in good thoughts and feelings the right steps will keep appearing along the way in form of ideas, solutions, resources and opportunities.
3. Practice sitting in Silence
Do not miss this step. If you want to tune into your inner guidance and take better charge of your own life. Getting quiet, connecting with ourselves alone in Silence, has a very positive effect on our body, mind, and overall attitude. Set aside atleast 15 minutes for your Silent sitting practice. The best time to do this would be first thing in the morning. It will help refresh your mind and re-energize your body. The Vedas declare, “Brahma (God) is in the form of sound.” What is this sound? It is the sound found in Silence. Therefore, everyday, practice silence sitting. Begin by focusing on your breath and try to relax your mind and body. This relaxation will produce peace and calmness that can bring you many answers and insights.
4. Do a weekly review of your results
Take some time once a week to honestly look at your life and results. How are you currently placed in your life? How are your finances going? How are your relationships doing? How is your health? What would you like to experience more of? Where you would like to be in your near future? What can you do to improve what you are currently doing? As you ask these questions, simply relax and notice the answers you get.
Do not try to judge or control the answers in anyway. Just try to acknowledge whatever you are feeling and write down answers in your diary. Through this exercise, we can get to the core of several issues troubling us. We can identify many thought patterns that could be blocking our progress and growth. We can get many ideas and insights on how to improve and change things for the better.
5. Trust the process
To make the right decisions, 2 things are very important – accurate information and ability to process it with a calm mind. When it comes to information, remember you may not have 100 percent of the most accurate or correct information you need. Learn to accept the uncertainty of the process and be okay with not having all the answers at once. It’s okay to not know everything. Sometimes things are meant to be known along the way. Do not try to hurry or force things to happen in a certain way or time. Learn to listen to your heart. The heart has an intelligence of its own. It can guide you to take the right decision for your Wellbeing and Success. With the information available, ask yourself the following questions – How do I feel about this? Does this generate right feelings? Is this in alignment with my inner vision?
Evaluating things in this manner with a calm mind without need for hurry is a great way to take right decisions successfully. They may not be perfect decisions but they will certainly be ones that you will have less regret for in your life. By continually seeking your inner guidance, you will connect more easily to your higher mind and act more out of certainty and inspiration rather than doubt and fear.
6. Living in the moment
Living mindfully is the key to making right decisions in one’s life. When you are feeling anxious or stressed, try to breathe in and out consciously. Focus on the Present moment – what are you seeing, hearing, tasting, touching and experiencing? Awareness on ‘what is’ opens up possibilities of what “could be.” Present moment awareness is something that needs to be practiced, but with time, you get better and better at it, feeling more relieved and peaceful, balanced and sorted.
Keep reminding yourself that the Present moment is the most important moment you have been given to better your life. This will keep your mind healthy and help you make positive choices in your life.
