Find your Passion in life

 

What lights up your spirit? What do you enjoy doing the most, without worrying about the time it takes you to do it? What do you think you were put on this earth to do better than anyone else? Answers to these questions can really add more meaning and sweetness to your life. Your life will take a wonderful turn for the better when you discover your heart’s passion and find a way to express it in your life. It is only then that you will be truly happy, successful, peaceful and fulfilled.

Many things can keep us from finding our true passion in life. One of the biggest reasons is our day to day life and routine. Life’s responsibilities and work pressures can leave us with very little time to explore the things we are passionate about. Another reason is Procrastination which prevents us from taking action even on good ideas that cross our mind. We may think one day we will pursue what we really want to do in life. But that day can only come when we identify it, set goals for it and start making concrete plans for it.

Fear of failure also keeps us from exploring new opportunities and bringing our passion to life. We might not believe we have a special skill set or even ability to make new and big things happen. So we choose to stay in our comfort zone and allow life to continue to happen to us in ways that are familiar to us. While it can be scary to venture into unknown waters, discovering what we are passionate about will bring us a more rewarding life. Why would you want to live a life of regret and guilt that you could have but you didn’t? Each time you put efforts you learn something new, you discover something more about yourself. This is what the journey of life is all about. There are no mistakes, only learnings and opportunities for growth.

 

Let us see how to go about walking this path towards finding our Passion and living our Purpose–

 

1. Understand what having Passion feels like.

The first step is to understand what being passionate really feels like. When you are passionate about something, you are excited to do it, even if it is difficult or discomforting to others.

When you are passionate about something, you will know it because time seems to fly by quickly and you easily lose track of time when you are doing it. You don’t mind putting in the time or effort it takes to accomplish what you are trying to achieve, for it comes from enthusiasm rather than stress and strain. It just feels right in both your head and heart. You feel fulfilled and happy about it. You feel a sense of purpose as you pursue it.

 

2. Recognize and Connect with your Value system

Each of our personalities, attitude and energy is made up of our core beliefs and value system. Recognizing your own value system will allow you to stay connected to your own deeper needs and purpose in life. For example – feelings that define you could be – compassion, love, honesty, integrity, curiosity, peace of mind etc.

Some of your deeper needs and desires may be serving your family, feeling joy, helping others, spreading abundance and in one way or the other, making a difference in the world. It could be that you feel drawn from within to create something through art, writing, dance, inventing, speaking, acting or any other means to feel truly fulfilled in life.

To help you identify your core values- Ask yourself these questions:

What is important to me?
Which values will I not compromise under any circumstances?
What things do I not want to live without?
What brings me satisfaction?

Write the answers down daily for next 30 days. You will certainly get clarity and insights about what you truly stand for and what path you need to take for the future. However keep in mind while you write, do not judge. Just be a witness to what your spirit wants to convey to you.

 

3. Identify – What is that one regret you don’t want to have.

Imagine you have lived your life and the people who have known you are talking about you or thinking of you. How do you want them to remember you? What are the most important things you hope you leave behind in this world? What do you want your own memories to be? What is it that you will have a regret for not doing if you reached the end of your life? These important questions will help you further figure out and become more aware of your true passion. Note down the answers you get. Try to answer this question daily along with the above exercise to recognize your core values.

 

4. Chalk out a Plan

Try to organize and combine into one sheet or paper all the insights and answers you received from the above 3 steps or exercises. All great accomplishments begin with a Vision, People with clear vision and Goal accomplish far more in a shorter period of time than people without them. But achieving anything requires a plan. Once you Identify what you are passionate about, list it down on paper, try to spend few moments in Silence daily to understand how you will incorporate it into your life. Silence is the most effective tool to connect with your inner wisdom, far greater than the knowledge that any book or course can provide you.

 

 

List out ideas and steps to get started with your plan of Action. This may require you to make some changes to your day to day life such as how you spend your free time and what you will focus on more from now on. For example, If you want to start your own business, explore a new career path or even find a more fulfilling job to offer your skill, write out a plan of how you will do this and what action steps you can get started with. Refer to this list daily and try to adopt these action steps one by one. Once you get started, you will find yourself getting more and more ideas and inspiration to continue. This is because when you commit to pursue our passion, your spirit guides you on to that path. It encourages you to follow it with more power, discipline and clarity.
