How to Stop Complaining-Blog Post by Dr Karishma Ahuja

Do you catch yourself complaining all the time? Do you think it’s affecting your life, health and relationships negatively? Then it’s time to take some strong and quick action towards overcoming it.

We all know that Complaining never accomplishes anything positive, but did you know that complaining can affect us in several other ways too? Complaining can actually keep caught in the energy and vibration of failures and past negative memories so strongly without us even realizing how it’s harming us.

By complaining we constantly put out negative thoughts. If we are putting out negative thoughts into the world, we will continue to attract more and more negativity into our lives. When we complain, our body also releases the stress hormone which keeps us feeling irritable and anxious most of the time. We end up wasting a lot of our time thereby blocking our own Success and happiness.

Here are few ways we can change our Attitude and Overcome the habit of Complaining

  1. Adopt an Attitude of Gratitude

Complaints don’t only include what you keep saying to others. The negative thoughts we keep in our mind also have the same ill effects of complaining. To overcome this problem, we need to work on changing our Mindset. A powerful way to begin developing a more positive mindset is to adopt an attitude of Gratitude. Have Gratitude for everything in life. Thankfulness is the direct opposite of Complaining. You can either complain or be grateful at a point in time. It’s easier to avoid complaining when we are genuinely thankful for life’s blessings.

No matter where we are or what we have, there are plenty of things to be grateful for. Those things can be as simple as the fresh air that you are breathing, the food that you eat, your heart that is beating for you, presence of your loved ones around you and so on.   Anytime you find yourself slipping into negative thoughts or complaints, pause and look around you for things to be thankful for. Identify them and express your gratitude for them with a smile on your face.

  1. Surround Yourself with Positive People

We tend to pick up the thoughts, ideas, and feelings of the people around us. You start behaving like the people you spend more time with. You start talking and reacting like them. You may have noticed that if one person in a group begins complaining, slowly everyone else in the group will also start voicing their own complaints. The good news is, that the same is true for positive thoughts and emotions also. If you surround yourself with positive people, their company will encourage you to adopt a more positive attitude and outlook both when you are around them and even when you are on your own. When others around you share good thoughts, you will also speak more sweetly and be in a better mood and vibration. This will help you complain less and enjoy your present more.

  1. Ask, What can I do about it?

Write down how you are feeling, whenever you catch yourself slipping into negativity. After you write down exactly how you are feeling, Sit in silence for 5 to 10 minutes. Try to calm your mind and relax your body. Now ask yourself, what can I do about this situation?  Whatever answers come, write them down.. Do this every time you complain or feel negative about anything. In few days doing this exercise, you will find yourself thinking more clearly and working more proactively towards transforming your situation and resolving your problem. Complaining will keep you stuck with the problem. Thinking Calmly about what can you do about it will take you faster towards the possible solutions.

All the best!
